Peer-to-Peer Program

Encourage Another Alpha

The goal of the Alpha-1 Canada Peer-to-Peer Program is to provide patients and their families encouragement and help them understand the complexities of this rare genetic disease. Meeting another Alpha, if only for a one-time phone call or developing a long-term friendship, can certainly help to ease feelings of isolation when living with a rare disease.

Peers are carefully chosen by Alpha-1 Canada and they can help other patients and their families address the challenges related to the disease.

Alpha-1 Canada’s Peer-to-Peer Program, links you with another Alpha who shares similar health and life circumstances. Through these trusted relationships, fellow Alphas and their family members can provide assistance in many ways:

  • They listen to concerns
  • They share personal experiences
  • They serve as a resource for developing coping strategies
  • They provide guidance in negotiating healthcare systems

Sharing experiences can help other patients and families navigate their own path and know that they are part of a community that understands and supports them.
